Hey, if you don't vote and you can you're an awful person.
Hard stop, you aren't being 'cool' and 'anti-establishment' you're just telling politicians that they don't need to care what you think.
You are telling them that it's ok to only appeal to the crotchety old white men who think that we won Vietnam. Because they will always vote and if you don't they win.
Tomorrow is the election. Go out and vote you fake punk piece of shit.
-sincerely those whose rights are at stake

No one and I mean not one person has to know who you voted for. Ever. Not your spouse, not your children, nor your boss and colleagues. It’s your right to vote whoever you choose.

To all of you who said we were being alarmists when we said Trump being elected president would decimate the United States indefinitely, I offer you a hearty, "FUCK YOU!"
Just some headlines from the past few days:
Fired gay teacher becomes first test of Supreme Court's same-sex marriage ruling (msn.com)
Iowa Republicans pass a new 6-week abortion ban (msn.com)
Man gets life sentence for raping 9-year-old Ohio girl who traveled to Indiana for legal abortion - ABC News (go.com)
We warned you that my-religion-should-give-me-the-right-to-discriminate-against-LGBTQ-people cases would open the door to more rulings to fuck over the queer community. And here's the proof we were right.
Even people with standing appointments for an abortion are fucked over because cowards in Iowa passed legislation at 11 PM to nearly eliminate abortion access in the state.
My mom was a high-risk obstetrics nurse practitioner for decades. She delivered babies from FIVE 8-year-olds. The child in the article was able to travel across state lines to receive a legal abortion, but many other people won't have that ability. We can expect many more children to be forced to give birth because of these evil rulings.

And since kids are being BEATEN TO DEATH IN SCHOOL BATHROOMS it would be cool if you voted for the bus going AWAY from that.
No more vigils. Vote.

the problem with not voting in order to send the message that you hate all the candidates and the entire system and therefore refuse to participate is that it's completely indistinguishable, as a signal, from not bothering to vote because you think the system is great and all the candidates are great and you'd be fine with any of them. so you might want to rethink the strategy there

I know everything is genuinely awful right now- from genocide to climate change to capitalism to record breaking levels of poverty and the breakdown worldwide of the middle class as it appears facisim is on the rise. Remember that it's always darkest before the dawn, and the more light the longer the shadows that are cast. People all around you, all around the planet are fighting. Please don't stand down or give up because you can't see the hope, the light. It's there, you're there. Keep shining, keep fighting against tyranny and injustice wherever you can.

You know what I cannot wait for? The day we have an election and we don’t have to say vote like your life depends on it because it does. This man has seeped into every facet of our lives for almost TEN years. Think about that. With one simple vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz he’s cooked-forever, and we won’t have to deal with that urgency again. We can have real policy debates and make actual progress again, once he is gone for good. So let’s do this thing one last time let’s vote like our lives depend on it and get back a better politic.

Protest to fix problems. Vote to PREVENT MORE!
(and since we're on the subject...)
such a huge relief that hillary’s so ahead in the polls and trump has such a small chance of winning, right? WRONG. DO NOT GET APATHETIC OR COMFORTABLE. DO NOT DECIDE YOU DON’T NEED TO VOTE BECAUSE YOU’RE SURE HILLARY WILL WIN. the only way trump can win now is if so many people expected to vote for hillary don’t show up to the polls. because you BETTER believe ALL of his supporters will be at the polls.
brexit passed in the UK because young people grew apathetic because they were sure it wasn’t going to pass. and it did, because old racists and xenophobes showed up in DROVES to vote.
tl;dr: VOTE, PEOPLE. VOTE LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT. IT MIGHT.

These rights were gained all within my lifetime. All women’s current privileges happened in the 20th century and full independence from men within the last 60 years.

Listen up.
The current Supreme Court is a 6-3 conservative majority.
Justice Thomas, that corrupt fascist fucker, is 75.
Justice Alito, that biased fascist fucker, is 74.
Each is married to a fascist ultra right wing woman. Ginny Thomas was actively involved in Trump's efforts to overturn the 2020 election. Martha Ann Alito is the alleged source of the ultra right wing flags on the Alito homes.
If Trump is elected in 2024, Thomas and Alito will retire, just like Kennedy did in 2018. Trump will get to appoint two more justices in their 50s.
Like sexual assaulter and liar Kavanaugh. Or handmaid's tale Coney Barrett. And the conservative majority will be on lock for thirty years. Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Coney Barrett are in their 50s.
Add two more ultraconservative justices in their 50s and you have a five seat conservative majority for 30 years if they live natural lifetimes.
If Trump is elected in 2024, we've not only lost the Court for at least a decade (now) but another thirty years.
What other civil rights would you like to lose? Because YOU WILL. We ALL will.
Can we fucking not? CAN WE FUCKING NOT?
Vote for Biden.
Vote for Democrats for the Senate.

"don't make it political!" .... what proportion of death and suffering must occur before politics are involved. if this isn't political, what is even the point of any politics, ever. of democracy. the words are "by the people for the people." if i am going to be left alone by my elected representatives to "figure it out" - to undergo damage, hardship, fear. what the fuck did i elect them for. what was their job. the entire point is that they handle this shit. this is why we were supposed to be electing leaders.
poverty is political. misogyny is political. gun control is political. climate change is political. how much aid a community gets is political. what the fuck are you talking about. it's been political this whole fucking time.

I cannot overstate this enough, but with the threat of trump and project 2025, there is GENUINELY a chance that this year's pride month could be the last...
I want y'all to really think about that, think about it when you hear or think "I'm not voting" or "both sides are the same

And if you think you're in a "blue enough area" think again.
I desperately encourage you to look at who is actually running, and also historical election data. For example, one of our school board positions was nearly filled by someone who was anti-mask, pro-censorship and was beaten out by less than 1k votes.
Look at the stuff these people say on social media. Some of my local candidates for various offices -- officially sponsored by the local republican party -- have expressed a desire to destroy public education and public libraries. Literally. Like the exact words were "get rid of libraries, they're liberal brainwashing facilities".
Don't have kids? DOESN'T MATTER. These systems support the ENTIRE COMMUNITY. The next generation will be who takes over in the positions that maintain your electrical grid, keep your water running, oversee supply chain in your local companies so things keep running. You want people who are educated. You want people to have equal access to food and shelter and dignity.
The more of a gap you have, the more space there is to be filled by hateful rhetoric that leads to violence -- yes, violence, in your backyard.
"That can't happen here" -- our area just recently faced sabotage to power substations LESS THAN FIVE MILES FROM MY HOUSE. Right down the road. During a cold snap that could've KILLED people and they know it. It can happen "here", and it will if people don't take an active stand in their communities.
Tonight I gave Art Spiegelman the National Book Awards Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters. And we're both being banned. Some of you may think this is a good thing because you don't like my books or you don't care for Maus. But I guarantee that there are books you love on the banned lists too. That's why libraries and librarians fight for their rights to have all the books on the shelves and for your rights to read them. And it's why I support them.

If you hear Republicans speak to other Republicans, you'll hear a lot of them say that they really don't like Trump for whatever reason (many of them aren't fans of the felony convictions, his personal manner, his business dealings, his family life, or whatever else) but that they'll still be voting for him because he'll get them closer to what they ultimately want. They're pragmatic; they don't demand purity in their candidate. They recognise him as their strategic choice so they'll set aside the issues they have with him and vote as a bloc. That's what makes them effective at getting their way. That's how they win elections.
And boy I wish we had more of that attitude on the left. Imagine what we could get done.
